A2 Review & Assessment

This unit reviews A2 essentials and checks progress across past events (past simple), future plans (going to), and preferences (likes, dislikes, reasons). Students complete mixed-skill tasks and finish with a short speaking check and written mini-task.

  • Complete a short mixed-skills assessment: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

Assessment Tasks (Mixed Skills)

Part A — Reading (10–12 min)
  • Short text: “My weekend + my plans”
  • Questions: past events, plans, preferences
  • Task types: multiple choice + short answer
Part B — Listening (8–10 min)
  • 2 short conversations: past + arrangement
  • Fill in missing details (time, place, activity)
  • True/False + “What are they going to do?”
Part C — Grammar (10 min)
  • Past simple: affirmative/negative/questions
  • Going to: complete sentences
  • Preference sentences: choose the best option

Speaking Check (2–3 minutes each)

Prompt 1: Past

Talk about last weekend (4–6 sentences). Include 1 negative and 1 question.

Prompt 2: Plans

Talk about your plans for the next 7 days using going to (3–5 sentences).

Prompt 3: Preferences

Choose: coffee vs tea / city vs countryside / movies vs books. Explain your preference with 2 reasons.

Writing Check (10–12 minutes)

Task

Write 90–120 words about: what you did last week, what you’re going to do next week, and what you prefer (and why).

  • 3 past simple sentences
  • 3 going to sentences
  • 2 preference sentences + 1 “because” reason
